Oatmeal is such a great food. I mean, what’s not to love? It’s yummy. It’s healthy. It’s a win-win.
Quaker stepped up their game this month when they officially rolled out a gluten-free line — Quick 1-Minute Oats, Instant Oatmeal Original and Instant Oatmeal Maple & Brown Sugar.
Even though I’ve always loved oats, my trip to the Quaker Gluten Free Blogger Summit last month got me thinking about oat flavor varieties in a whole new way. Newsflash, savory oats are actually amazing.
During the summit, Sam from OatMeals in New York City demonstrated some of her famous recipes for us bloggers.
After the cooking demonstration, the bloggers split into pairs, and we tried our hand at creating recipes of our own. My partner, Sharon from What the Fork Food Blog, and I created a savory dish with gluten-free oats. It had Sriracha, honey, bacon, onion powder, salt, pepper and green onions. Not to brag or anything but the other bloggers voted our dish the best, and we won the challenge! I owe most of the credit to my awesome partner.
Confident in my newfound oat recipe creating abilities, I went home and decided to try other savory oatmeal flavor combinations.
I created a Southwest Style Oatmeal flavor combination that is totally worth sharing. This is an original recipe of mine. When you make this recipe at home, be sure to look for ingredients labeled gluten-free.

Steps (10 minutes)
