My First Gluten-Free Birthday

This week was my 22nd birthday, which was my first birthday since I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I was actually really excited for my birthday this year, because at this point in my gluten-free life I’ve figured out what I like to eat. It was another reminder of the major changes I’ve had to make in my life, but I am quick to remind myself that the changes are for the better.

I decided to go to Maggiano’s for dinner with my family, which is probably my favorite restaurant where you can eat gluten-free. It is an Italian restaurant with tons of gluten-free pasta options. Also, they have gluten-free rolls from a local gluten-free bakery, which makes the whole meal worth while!! I love that at Maggiano’s, I don’t have to sit there starving while everyone else is enjoying their rolls.

For my meal, I ordered the penne pasta with sausage, which was AMAZING! And from what I hear from my family, all the pasta is delicious.

Another awesome thing about Maggiano’s is that they give you an entire meal to-go if you order a pasta entree! You get two meals for the price of one (or 3 or 4 meals, depending on how much you take home from your first meal)!!

For cake, we went to a local gluten-free bakery, Andrea’s Gluten-Free Bakery. We got chocolate chunk cake with white icing, and they even wrote a message saying ‘happy birhtday’ on the cake! Who doesn’t love that? Along with cake, the bakery had lots of other gluten-free snacks and meals. If you live in the Saint Louis area, I highly, HIGHLY recommend you stop in at Andrea’s Gluten-Free Bakery. They were extremely helpful and had great food.
